7th Grade Science Teacher

Start Date: August 2018

Phoenix Country Day School is currently seeking a dynamic and collaborative educator to teach 7th Grade Science for the 2018-19 school year. The ideal candidate will fulfill the following qualifications.

  • Exude a passion for teaching hands-on, inquiry based science - with a particular focus on chemistry and ecology
  • Effectively teach organizational skills, note-taking, and research skills
  • Integrate technology, innovative curricula, and best pedagogical practices
  • Understand the developmental needs of middle school students
  • Differentiate instruction when necessary, to meet the needs of all middle school students
  • Be willing to develop and embrace, authentic assessments and innovative grading practices
  • Exhibit flexibility, optimism, and creativity
  • Advise 10-12, 7th grade students
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills

Minimum qualifications/requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, physicis, biology, geology, or a related field
  • Master’s Degree preferred

Phoenix Country Day School is currently seeking a full-time Upper School Physics teacher for the 2018-19 school year.

Essential duties:

  • Teach 4-5 sections of Physics and science elective courses each semester, including advanced-level physics courses
  • Be an advisor to 8-9 students
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents
  • Attend regular committee, department, and faculty meetings
  • Participate as a sponsor or coach for an extracurricular activity, sport, or club

Candidates must love:

  • Working with adolescents and young adults
  • Collaborating with colleagues within and across departments
  • Learning and be eager to take risks

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Created or be interested in creating new courses and curriculum
  • Experience or be excited to try standards-based grading
  • Comfort with using technology in their teaching and administrative course management
  • Exceptional subject-area knowledge
  • Interest in engineering and/or robotics
  • A sense of humor
