A key component to the PCDS experience is the individualized attention each of our students receives from his or her teachers. To provide the most challenging and supportive experience for our students, small classes are key.
In our smallest grade level, Pre-Kindergarten, four expert teachers support the learning of only 28 students between two classrooms. While the grade-levels increase in size through the Lower School, into the Middle and Upper Schools, our commitment to small classes and individualized instruction continues. Our average class size is 15 students with an instructor, including many classes that are much smaller. Additionally, in the Upper School, many students engage in one-on-one independent studies, working with a faculty member on an intellectual endeavor of one’s own design. We have a student to faculty ratio of 8:1, as well as a student to college counselor ratio of 18:1. In short, our incredible faculty succeeds best when it is able to know, challenge, and support each and every student.
