Student Life

Phoenix Country Day School prides itself on supporting a balanced student experience, offering the best academic education a school could provide while also supporting the many developmental, personal, social, and extra-curricular interests of students across all age levels.

In the Lower School, students are encouraged to learn through play and develop their social skills with peers and knowledge of oneself.  As such, the Lower School students learn beyond the classroom through field trips, performances, and recess. Additionally, After-School Programs are available for students interested in building fundamentals in particular areas, including art, Spanish language and culture, swimming, and yoga.

In the Middle School, multiple extra-curricular clubs and organizations become available during students’ Enrichment and lunch times, including those pursuing academic passions beyond the classroom (eg. Science Club, Lego Robotics, and more).  Additionally, Student Council offers the opportunity for students to build leadership, teamwork and communication skills while impacting the Middle School community.  Lastly, Performing Arts and Athletics programs are available for students to showcase their skills on stage or in athletic competition.

In the Upper School, there are over fifty different student-led clubs and organizations, from student created publications (The Phoenician, En Este Momento, The Active Voice), to cultural groups (Hispanic Heritage Club, International Film Club, Jewish Cultural Club), to advocacy groups (Gay-Straight Alliance, Young Republicans, Young Democrats, Green Team), to competitive teams (Robotics, Speech and Debate), to academic and pre-professional pursuits (Pre-Med Club, Technical Theatre, PCDS Ventures, International Thespian Society).  In addition to the many clubs and social groups, students in the Upper School balance their academics with engaging Arts and Athletics experiences that are inclusive, challenging, and highly rewarding.

In short, life at PCDS extends well beyond the walls of a classroom, and the School is committed to supporting its students in all of their pursuits, while also facilitating students’ growth socially, artistically, athletically, and beyond.
